(Mastopexy)

Over the years, various factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity can take their toll on a woman's breasts. As the skin loses its elasticity, breasts often lose their shape and firmness. Thus, a breast lift is a surgical procedure to raise, reshape, and restructure sagging breasts that have lost their original shape.

Typically, mastopexy does not require implant placement, but in some cases, this may be combined with, or substituted by, breast augmentation surgery. Mastopexy is done to elevate and reshape the breasts by removing excess skin and some underlying tissue along with repositioning remaining tissue and nipples.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Voloshin, it is important to frankly discuss your concerns about getting a breast lift. Be sure to discuss your expectations with him, because every physician and patient has a different view of what is a desirable size and shape for breasts.

Ideal candidates for this surgery generally show signs of:

• Breasts that are of satisfactory size, but are pendulous
• Breasts that lack substance or firmness
• Nipples and areolas that point downward, particularly if they are positioned below the breast crease.
• Sagging breasts
